Luxury Car Hire Prices
How Rolls-Royce, Limousine & Chauffeur Hire Is Priced
How much does it cost to hire a Rolls-Royce or limousine? The honest answer is that there is no single hourly figure that works for every booking.
A local wedding, a Friday evening prom, a few hours of shopping in Central London and a full day at Royal Ascot can all use the same vehicle but require very different amounts of preparation, positioning, waiting, driving and chauffeur availability.
After more than 15 years providing wedding, prom and event transport, we price the actual job rather than simply multiplying the customer-facing hours by an hourly rate. This guide explains why prices vary and points you to our more specific price guides when you need an exact figure.
Looking for an Exact Price?
For weddings, see our Wedding Price Guide and then choose your area. Our main pages may show starting or guide prices; where a definitive local price guide has been published, that local page gives the actual published price for the stated service in that area.
For proms, see our Prom Hire Price Guide and choose your area to compare the vehicles and actual local prices available there.
If you already know your wedding venue, our Wedding Venue Guides can also be useful because they combine transport advice with what we have learned from actually working at individual venues.
Is Rolls-Royce Hire Priced by the Hour?
Not in the same way as a taxi. Around £100 per booked hour can sometimes be a useful way of understanding a longer Rolls-Royce booking, but it is not a fixed hourly tariff.
A short booking can work out considerably higher per customer-facing hour because preparation, chauffeur allocation, positioning and the return journey still have to happen. A longer booking with substantial waiting can work out lower per hour because those initial costs have already been absorbed.
Why Can a One-Hour Hire Look Expensive?
A one-hour booking is almost never one hour of work for us.
Before the customer sees the car, it may need to be cleaned, checked and presented to event standard. The chauffeur must be allocated and briefed, travel to the collection point and arrive with sensible contingency time. After the customer journey, the car and chauffeur still have to return or reposition.
The preparation required for a Rolls-Royce or limousine is largely the same whether the customer books a one-way journey or keeps the car for three or four hours. A short hire can also block the most useful part of the day, preventing another booking before or afterwards.
Why Chauffeur Time Matters Even on a Short Booking
We believe chauffeurs should be paid properly for the time a booking takes out of their working day. Our drivers are paid at a living-wage level or above, and we do not treat a one-hour customer booking as one hour of a chauffeur's working time.
In practice, once preparation, travel, early arrival, the hire itself and the return journey are included, a short booking can take roughly half a working day out of a chauffeur's schedule. That means the chauffeur cost of a one-hour hire and a three- or four-hour hire can be much closer than the customer-facing hours suggest.
This is one reason longer bookings often offer better value per hour without the short booking being artificially expensive.
Why Is a 3 or 4-Hour Booking Often Better Value?
Once the vehicle has been prepared, the chauffeur allocated and the car positioned, keeping it with you for another hour or two does not repeat all those initial costs.
It is a little like a multi-buy: the additional time can represent excellent value. But value only exists if you need it.
If a one-way wedding arrival genuinely covers your plans, we will not encourage you to book four hours simply because the hourly calculation looks better. Our aim is to recommend the right service, not the longest service.
What Happens if My Booking Runs Over?
We understand that weddings, proms and special occasions do not always run exactly to the minute, and we build sensible breathing space between bookings wherever we can.
However, overtime can cost more than the equivalent time booked in advance. Once your original hire period ends, the car and chauffeur may already have another confirmed booking later in the day, or the chauffeur may have made personal plans around the agreed finishing time. We will always make you aware if your vehicle has a time-sensitive commitment afterwards.
Unplanned extra time is different from time reserved in advance. It can require us to rearrange a chauffeur's day, protect another customer's booking, change positioning plans or pay for additional working time at short notice. That is why overtime rates can appear comparatively expensive.
If you think your ceremony, photographs, reception arrival or event may run longer, tell us when booking. It is usually easier - and often better value - to allow the right amount of time from the start than to rely on overtime on the day.
Will You Cancel a Small Booking if a Bigger Job Comes Along?
No. We take a confirmed one-hour booking just as seriously as a full-day booking.
Once we have accepted and confirmed your booking, we allocate the vehicle and plan the chauffeur's schedule around it. We do not regard a shorter booking as disposable simply because a more lucrative enquiry arrives later.
This matters particularly with specialist vehicles. A customer booking a Rolls-Royce for a one-way wedding arrival, a birthday surprise or a short prom journey should be able to plan their occasion knowing that their booking matters to us.
No transport operator can promise that mechanical problems, accidents or genuinely exceptional circumstances will never occur, but replacing a confirmed customer simply because a higher-value booking appears is not how we operate.
Why Can Prom Car Hire Cost More Than Wedding Car Hire?
Prom pricing is heavily affected by logistics, demand and timing. Prom season compresses a large number of bookings into a relatively small number of summer evenings, with many schools wanting cars at very similar times.
A 5pm Friday prom might only involve an hour with the customer, but Friday traffic can require the chauffeur to leave much earlier. That can make an afternoon booking impossible, while the finishing time and location can also prevent another early-evening booking.
Photography, groups of friends, multiple collection points and precise venue arrival times add further logistical pressure. The price therefore reflects the part of the day that has to be reserved, not simply the miles driven.
For actual prices where you live, use our Prom Hire Price Guide and choose your area.
Why Can a Few Hours of Shopping Cost More Than a Wedding?
A local wedding can have a predictable itinerary: collection, ceremony, waiting and reception. A shopping or personal chauffeur booking in Central London can involve stop-start driving, changing destinations, parking restrictions, extended waiting and unpredictable traffic.
The vehicle and chauffeur may effectively be committed exclusively to that customer for the whole period, and the journey into and out of Central London is still working time even when the customer is not sitting in the car.
So two bookings described as 'three hours' can create very different amounts of work.
Does Central London Cost More?
It can. Central London bookings may involve additional travel time, parking and applicable road-user charges. Which charges apply depends on the vehicle, route and date, so we do not automatically add every London charge to every booking.
Traffic is often the bigger cost. A car may need to leave considerably earlier to protect the agreed arrival time, and waiting or parking a Rolls-Royce or stretched limousine in Central London requires more planning than an ordinary point-to-point journey.
Why Do Fuel and Travel Time Matter?
Rolls-Royces and stretched limousines are substantial vehicles with large engines, so fuel is a genuine operating cost. In our real working use, rather than laboratory figures, we typically plan around approximately 9 mpg for a Rolls-Royce, around 6 mpg for the Hummer H2 limousine and around 12 mpg for the Chrysler-based Baby Bentley limousine. Actual consumption varies with traffic, route, load and driving conditions.
But fuel is only part of the picture. A booking closer to our operating area normally requires less positioning time before collection and less travelling after the customer journey has finished. A booking further away can occupy the car and chauffeur for much longer even when the customer-facing hire itself is short.
Why Can a Limousine Take Longer to Reach Some Addresses?
A stretched limousine cannot always use the same route as an ordinary car. Narrow residential roads, tight bends, parked vehicles, width restrictions and unsuitable turning areas can all affect the route or the collection point.
The shortest route on a map is not necessarily the sensible route for a 16-seat Hummer H2. We may need to allow additional time or agree a nearby safe collection point, and that can affect the cost of some bookings.
Why Are Local Bookings Usually Cheaper?
A booking closer to us normally requires less empty travelling and less positioning time before and after the customer's journey.
At the same time, we try to avoid turning every neighbouring postcode into a different price. Where it is practical, we maintain the same pricing across a sensible surrounding area so customers receive a clearer and more consistent level of service rather than a series of small postcode supplements.
Where travel time genuinely changes the work involved, the price may change. That is why our definitive local price guides are important: they show the actual published price for that area and stated service.
Why Do Friday and Saturday Bookings Sometimes Cost More?
A booking affects what can be scheduled around it. A 5pm Friday hire can require an early departure because of traffic, making an afternoon booking impractical. If it finishes in the wrong place or at the wrong time, another evening booking may also be impossible.
So a nominal one-hour booking can occupy several hours of useful vehicle and chauffeur availability. Peak dates and peak times therefore matter just as much as the time spent with the customer.
Are Newer Rolls-Royces More Expensive to Hire?
Generally, newer and higher-value vehicles command higher hire prices. They may offer a more contemporary cabin, fresher appearance, newer technology and the particular look a customer wants for a modern venue.
That does not mean newer is automatically better for every occasion. A beautifully maintained classic Rolls-Royce can be exactly right for a church, manor house or traditional wedding. Personal preference, condition, style and budget all matter.
Always Compare Like for Like - Even When Both Cars Say Rolls-Royce
This is one of the most important pieces of advice we can give when comparing quotations. The words 'Rolls-Royce hire' do not tell you which Rolls-Royce will actually arrive.
The difference is not only classic versus modern. It can also be modern versus modern, or one generation of the same model versus another. An older Rolls-Royce Silver Spur, for example, can be bought on today's used market for a fraction of the value of a modern chauffeur-focused Rolls-Royce. That does not make the Silver Spur a bad car, but a £195 advert for 'Rolls-Royce hire' is not automatically comparable with a quotation for a much newer Phantom or Ghost.
The same applies within the Phantom range. A Phantom VII Series 1 and the later Phantom VII Series 2 may look similar to somebody unfamiliar with the cars, but age, styling, value, specification and customer appeal can be very different. Phantom VIII is a different generation again.
There are also aftermarket conversion kits capable of changing the exterior appearance of an older Phantom to resemble a newer generation. An exterior photograph alone therefore may not tell the whole story.
Always ask which exact model and generation you are being quoted for. Ask for recent photographs of the actual car, including the interior, and ideally arrange a viewing if the vehicle matters to your occasion. We welcome viewings because customers should know what they are booking.
If a supplier will not provide clear current photographs, is vague about the model or year, or is reluctant to let you verify the actual vehicle, treat that as a reason to ask more questions. Registration details can be a useful way to verify a vehicle's age and identity, although there can be legitimate privacy or security reasons for not publishing a registration openly online.
Compare the actual model and generation, age and condition, the actual vehicle being supplied, hire duration, waiting time, journeys included, chauffeur service, presentation, insurance and appropriate licensing, and any extras or charges. Compare like for like, not badge for badge.
Why Can Full-Day Hire Be Good Value?
Hourly comparisons become particularly misleading on full-day events. A vehicle and chauffeur committed to a day at Royal Ascot might cost around £1,000 depending on the vehicle, date, itinerary and requirements.
That is clearly more than a short wedding arrival, but if the vehicle is committed for most of the day the effective hourly cost can be much lower than a short peak-time booking. The customer has secured the car and chauffeur for the occasion rather than simply buying a journey from A to B.
Full-day hire is not cheap; it can simply represent very good value for the amount of vehicle and chauffeur time reserved.
Does Waiting Time Cost the Same as Driving Time?
Not necessarily. While a vehicle is waiting, fuel use may be lower, but the car and chauffeur remain unavailable to another customer.
That is why longer bookings with substantial waiting can have a lower effective hourly rate without waiting being free. This is especially relevant to Asian and Indian weddings, race days, corporate events and other occasions where the chauffeur may remain allocated for much of the day.
Why Can an Asian or Indian Wedding Cost Less Per Hour?
Many Asian and Indian weddings involve longer schedules, including ceremony waiting and a later return or onward journey. Once the vehicle has been prepared, positioned and staffed, the additional waiting hours can cost proportionately less than repeatedly booking separate short journeys.
That is why six-, eight- or ten-hour wedding hire should not be calculated by multiplying a one-hour price by six, eight or ten.
For the actual options available, see our Wedding Price Guide and then choose your area where definitive local pricing is published.
So What Actually Determines the Price?
We look at the combination of vehicle, date, location, positioning, journey, duration, waiting, traffic, demand, access and chauffeur commitment.
Two customers can therefore hire the same Rolls-Royce for the same customer-facing number of hours and legitimately receive different quotations. One booking may be close to our operating area on a quiet weekday; another may require the vehicle to cross London at 4pm on a Friday. The visible hire time is the same. The job behind it is not.

Luxury Car Hire Pricing FAQs
How much does it cost to hire a Rolls-Royce?
There is no single hourly price. Cost depends on the model, location, date, journey, duration, waiting time, traffic and demand. Main vehicle pages may show starting prices; where available, our definitive local guides show the actual published price for that area and stated service.
How much is a Rolls-Royce per hour?
Around £100 per hour can sometimes be a useful way of understanding a longer booking, but it is not a fixed tariff. Short bookings can work out higher per hour because preparation and positioning still have to happen; longer bookings with substantial waiting can work out lower.
Why is one hour of Rolls-Royce hire expensive?
Because a one-hour customer booking may require several hours of actual vehicle and chauffeur time once preparation, travel to the collection point, early arrival and the return journey are included.
Why can the chauffeur cost be similar for one hour and four hours?
Because the chauffeur's working time includes more than the customer's time in the car. A short booking can occupy roughly half a working day once positioning, contingency and the return journey are included, so the staffing cost does not fall in direct proportion to the customer-facing hire time.
Why can overtime cost more than time booked in advance?
Overtime is unplanned time added to a schedule that may already contain another booking or personal commitments for the chauffeur. It can require last-minute changes, additional working time or protection of another customer's booking. We allow sensible gaps and will tell you if the vehicle has a later time-sensitive commitment, but it is usually better value to book enough time from the outset.
Is three- or four-hour Rolls-Royce hire better value than one hour?
Usually on an effective hourly basis, yes. But if you only need a one-way arrival, there is no reason to buy additional hours simply because the hourly calculation looks better.
Will you cancel my short booking if somebody offers you a bigger booking?
We do not cancel a confirmed short booking simply because a higher-value enquiry arrives later. Once accepted, the vehicle and chauffeur schedule are planned around that booking. Genuine exceptional circumstances such as mechanical problems can happen, but a more profitable enquiry is not a reason to replace a confirmed customer.
Why is prom car hire expensive?
Prom demand is concentrated into a limited number of summer evenings and similar arrival times. Traffic, positioning, photography, multiple collections and the loss of other peak-time booking opportunities can all affect the price.
Why can Central London chauffeur hire cost more?
Central London can involve longer journey times, parking and applicable road-user charges. The exact effect depends on the route, vehicle and booking.
Does distance affect Rolls-Royce hire prices?
The important issue is not a mileage formula. A booking further from our operating area can require substantially more vehicle and chauffeur time before and after the customer-facing hire, while a closer booking is normally easier to position.
Are newer Rolls-Royces more expensive to hire?
Generally yes, but age is not the only consideration. Model, generation, condition, presentation, style and suitability for the occasion all matter. Always compare the exact car, not simply the Rolls-Royce badge.
How do I know which Rolls-Royce I am actually hiring?
Ask for the exact model and generation, recent photographs of the actual exterior and interior, and ideally view the car if it is important to your occasion. If the supplier is vague about the vehicle or unwilling to let you verify what is being supplied, ask more questions before paying a deposit.
Why does a full day sometimes cost less per hour?
Preparation and positioning costs occur at the start of the booking. Once the car and chauffeur are committed for the day, additional waiting hours can have a lower incremental cost than several separate short hires.
Where can I find the exact price for my area?
Use our Wedding Price Guide or Prom Hire Price Guide and choose your location. Where a definitive local page has been published, it gives the actual published price for the stated local service rather than a broad starting price.
A Final Word on Price
Luxury chauffeur hire is not a taxi meter with a prestigious badge on the bonnet. The price reflects the vehicle, the preparation behind it, the chauffeur's time, the journey to and from the booking, the part of the day reserved and the standard of service expected when the car arrives.
We take short bookings and full-day bookings seriously. The aim is not to sell the greatest number of hours; it is to allocate the right vehicle, enough time and a realistic price for the job you actually need.
If you want an exact figure, use the relevant definitive price guide or send us your date, collection point, destination, approximate timings, passenger numbers and preferred vehicle.
